AllTrails Stewards Fund

A new grassroots initiative to support trails

Stewardship is one of our core values at AllTrails. We’re driven by the belief that everyone belongs outdoors while knowing that caring for the trails is just as important as exploring them. Our technology helps millions of people around the world get outside, but we haven’t figured out how to have it build a culvert (yet). Fortunately, we found another way: getting funds directly into the hands of those who work on trails every day.

As a member of 1% for the Planet, we donate 1 percent of our proceeds to environmental organizations that advance conservation and outdoor access.  Building on this commitment, in 2025 we're introducing a new way to give back. The AllTrails Stewards Fund will give money to projects that improve, maintain, rebuild, and restore our outdoor spaces through an open application process.

About the fund

The fund is for trail projects that expand outdoor access and preserve outdoor spaces.  We're looking to help projects with strong community support and strategies for long-term sustainability.

Fund awards range from $2,000 to $10,000 and will be given in the following categories:

  • Trail resiliency: Addressing erosion, climate change, improving drainage, and other work that ensures long-term trail health
  • Trail experience: Improving the natural environment along trails, such as invasive species removal or native plant restoration
  • Essential maintenance: Addressing deferred maintenance, improving signage, and enhancing visitor amenities
  • Trail restoration: Restoring previously closed trails to public use
  • Trail insights: Projects that survey, collect, and share critical trail data to improve accessibility and visitor experience. This includes: Trail access data (surface type, width, elevation profile) or basic trail information (name, tags, type). We encourage open-source sharing of this data
